Retired IUEC Local 17 brother Jerry Reed passed away March 30th. He was 67. Reed was laid to rest April 4th. In his memory and in lieu of flowers, the family suggests a gift to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E. 185th Street, Cleveland, OH 44119.
It was rumored late last week and confirmed earlier today that the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) and the National Elevator Bargaining Association (NEBA) have reached a tentative agreement on a new five-year contract.
While broad areas of the proposed contract are starting to come to light, there has been nothing in writing from the International on the details of the agreement. Any agreement between the IUEC and NEBA must be approved by the delegates of the locals at a gathering later this spring.
According to Business Agent Tim Moennich there will be information available at the regularly scheduled union meeting this Friday, March 9th at 6pm.

Retired Bro. John LoPiccolo’s son John LoPiccolo Jr. passed away Tuesday. The family will receive friends Friday 4-8 PM at A. Ripepi & Sons Funeral Home, 18149 Bagley Road, Middleburg Heights (west of I-71). The mass will be Saturday February 11, 2012 at St. Ambrose Church, 929 Pearl Road at 12:00 Noon.
Keep April 20, 2012 open for the 2012 Annual Retiree’s Dinner. The dinner, which features German food and drink, will be held at Frank Sterle’s Slovenian Country House, 1401 East 55th Street, Cleveland. The event starts with beverages at 5:30 and dinner served at 6:30pm. The cost for active members is $30 and retiree’s are free. A letter will be going out with further details.
Starting March 26th and continuing for the following two weeks, IUEC Local 17 in conjunction with the National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP) and Lincoln Electric, the world-leader in welding equipment, will be offering a welding course leading to G3 and G4 certification.
The class will be taught at Lincoln’s headquarters in Euclid, Ohio and will run Monday through Friday from 5 to 9 pm for two weeks. There is a $600 deposit required when signing up for the class. The deposit will be returned on completion of the course.

Just a reminder to all those that are on the new hire list. NEIEP has to have your response recieved at their office by no later than January 5 to remain on the list. If they do not receive your response you will drop off the list and no longer be eligible to be picked up. Brother Leroy Frantz passed away Tuesday. Friends may call at the Donald A. Faulhaber Funeral Home, 7915 Broadview Road (at Sprague) where services will be held on Sunday, December 18 at 7:30 PM. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8 PM.
The IUEC Local 17 Children’s Christmas Party will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 1 pm at the hall located at 3250 Euclid Avenue. Mothers are asked to bring baked goods and the local will provide beverages for the children and adults. As in years past, all children twelve and under will receive gifts.

Through the efforts of working men and women across Ohio the initiative to repeal Senate Bill 5 moves to the November 8th ballot as State Issue 2.
The unprecedented petition campaign brought in nearly 1.3 million signatures in total and represented every one of the 88 counties in Ohio.
The fight is not over. Volunteers are needed to work the phone bank and canvass neighborhoods as part of a massive outreach campaign to educate, identify and turn out voters to repeal SB5 by voting NO on Issue 2.

Cleveland Browns All-Pro lineman Joe Thomas has once again donated tickets to a Browns home game as a way to give back to the working families of Cleveland that have fallen on hard times.
The tickets are for the 1pm November 13th home game against the St. Louis Rams. The tickets are to be used by a family of 10 or 10 individuals who are unemployed and have fallen on hard times and may not otherwise be able to enjoy a game. The tickets come with parking passes, sweatshirts and food vouchers.
